An antique Khmer style statue of Lakshmi, the Hindu devi or goddess, rendered in the late 12th, early 13th century Bayon style.
Lakshmi is revered as the goddess of wealth and prosperity—both material and spiritual—as well as light, wisdom, fortune, fertility, generosity, and courage. The embodiment of beauty, grace, and charm, she is also known as Mahalakshmi, bringer of good luck and protector of devotees from hardship and money‑related sorrows.
In this graceful sculpture, Lakshmi is clothed in a long, pleated sampot, secured with a refined lotus‑motif belt that accentuates the elegance of her stance. Her hair is gathered with a bead band into a rounded chignon, a detail that echoes classical Khmer aesthetics and adds to the statue’s regal poise.
She holds a lotus flower delicately in her left hand, symbolising purity, spiritual awakening, and auspicious growth. Her right hand is raised in a gesture of granting boons, signifying her readiness to bestow blessings, abundance, and protection upon those who honour her.
