Antique Thai Style Bronze Standing 4-Arm Ganesha Statue - 35cm/14"
Measures (Height) 35cm/14" (Weight) 4kg/9lbs
An expressively cast antique Thai-style bronze standing four-armed Ganesha, poised gracefully atop a circular lotus leaf plinth. Ganesha, the elephant-headed son of Shiva, is one of the most beloved and widely recognised deities in the Hindu tradition.
He is adorned in a long dhoti, with crossed cloth elegantly wrapped around his portly waist, reflecting both his regal presence and approachable nature. In three of his four hands, he holds a conch shell, trident, and sweetmeats, while his fourth hand is raised in a gesture of protection (abhaya mudra), offering reassurance and blessing to devotees.
The trident, which is removable, is a powerful symbol associated with the destruction of evil and ignorance. In Ganesha’s grasp, it signifies his ability to remove obstacles not only in the physical world but also across the spiritual and intellectual realms, guiding devotees toward wisdom and enlightenment.
The conch shell represents purity and auspiciousness. Its sacred sound is believed to echo the primordial vibration of creation itself. By holding the conch, Ganesha embodies divine harmony and the promise of new beginnings, inviting devotees to align with the deeper rhythms of the cosmos.
In another hand, Ganesha holds laddus—traditional Indian sweetmeats. Beyond their playful suggestion of indulgence, these delicacies symbolise the rewards of a life well lived and the sweetness of spiritual fulfilment. They also reflect Ganesha’s relatable and benevolent nature, bridging the divine and the human experience.
Ganesha’s inclusive nature as a Vedic deity is expressed through his ever-watchful gaze, often directed outward at eye level, symbolising his care for all beings, not solely his devotees. Like Krishna, he celebrates life in all its richness, embracing both its joys and challenges.
The direction of Ganesha’s trunk carries symbolic meaning. Here, it turns to his left, a form associated with householders (grihastas) and worldly success, representing balance, prosperity, and harmonious living.
Originally linked with fertility in early Indian traditions, Ganesha evolved into the revered Remover of Obstacles, Lord of Beginnings, and patron of arts, sciences, intellect, and wisdom. This timeless depiction captures his enduring spiritual significance and universal appeal.
With its distinctive and richly developed patina, this piece exudes character and depth, making it a striking and meaningful addition to any home or collection.

It is an amazing "museum quality" antique bronze!!! For a 19th century bronze antique, I believe the Newark, NJ Museum may express interest if I show them. However, they will never get it and I will have it in my collection for posterity. We will be doing much more business in the foreseeable future, count on it!!!

Thank you so very much! Well, I needed Buddha here -- and I certainly now have Buddha here in many ways and many forms -- with thanks to HDAsianArt. Each statue you've sent has worked out very well -- each in its own way -- each combined in settings with other art pieces -- each has blended well -- finishing off different areas of my home -- and all communicates well to tell a story of different aspects of my life. I intentionally chose your pieces -- to get away from the "norm" of beautiful gild Buddhas that everyone has -- your pieces are quite unique -- and a bit more "real" -- which serves my purpose well. So, thank you.
