  • Antique Khmer Style Standing Bronze Bayon Ganesha Statue - 40cm/16"

    Measures (Height) 40cm/16"

An antique Khmer Bayon style standing Ganesha.

The Ganesha is in the post Angkor-Wat Bayon style. This magnificent bronze figure has facial features and ornate jewellery typical of the Bayon style.

The cylindrical piling up of the hair into a high chignon and regimented hair curls demonstrate the ecumenical nature of iconography in the Bayon period, the former associated with the supreme form of Vishnu, the latter with Shiva. To the rear the Sampot is fastened with a butterfly style bow in the post-Angkor Wat style.

The distinctive patina of the piece is particularly delightful.

Ganesha is the elephant headed son of Shiva. He holds his broken tusk in one hand and a bowl of sweetmeats in another hand.

He is also holding one of his spiritual weapons, the Chakra or discus and a musical conch shell. Ganesha is often found playing a musical instrument. Similar to Krishna, Ganesha celebrates life through it's pleasures and beauty.

The direction of Ganesha's trunk has symbolic meaning. Here the trunk turns to Ganesha's left. This signifies the direction for success in the world. It is a position associated with grihastas, or householders. In his early forms in India, Ganesha was associated with fertility.

Later he became widely revered as the Remover of Obstacles and more generally as Lord of Beginnings and Lord of Obstacles, patron of arts and sciences and the deity of intellect and wisdom. This traditional in appearance piece is sure to add a unique touch to any room of your home or workplace.

One of the most recognizable of the Asian deities this representation of Ganesha is sure to enlighten your home with endlessly timeless style.

Just wanted to let you know your handsome Cambodia bronze Buddha torso statue arrived in fine shape (well packaged) in today's mail. Thanks for shipping so very promptly. I'm very pleased with the bust... as I was with the other two pieces I ordered from you last year. The statue is quietly handsome and such a nice addition to my collection. Perfect.

My Brahma statue arrived and looks fantastic and very much at home next to my Ganesha statue. Definitely worth the wait so thanks again.
