An antique Khmer style standing Buddha statue triptych from Cambodia. An unsual presentation of three Khmer Buddha. Each Buddha is stood sambhanga in the Abhaya or Protection mudra. A hand gesture that offers reassurance and safety - dispelling fear and according divine protection and bliss to the devotee. This is one of the earliest Mudra found depicted on a number of Hindu, Buddhist, and Jaina images.
The Buddha's are stood on a raised platforms. Their flowing robes cascading over both shoulders.
Each Buddha has a peaceful countenance with downcast introspective eyes and a firm brow. Their earlobes are stretched long from a youth spent as a prince wearing heavy gold earrings. Each has a large ushnisha on top of their head, symbolizing his high level of spiritual development.
The peaceful countenance of Lord Buddha exudes harmony. The casting is beautiful as you can see in the fine details of each face. Each detail is rendered perfectly. The distinctive patina of the piece is also particularly delightful.
