A beautiful antique Thai Rattanakosin‑style Happy, Fat, Laughing Buddha (Budai), full of warmth and charm.
This delightful figure is seated on a richly decorated Rattanakosin‑style throne in the adamantine posture of vajraparyankasana, with the right leg folded over the left. The throne is adorned with bands of beading and geometric motifs that echo traditional Thai architectural ornament, grounding the Buddha in a sense of regal stability. His royal robes drape generously over both shoulders; the lower hem falls all the way down so that the undercloth or skirt is completely covered, emphasising abundance and comfort.
The Buddha’s rounded form, gentle smile and softly modelled hands convey ease, generosity and approachable joy. His eyes are slightly downcast, lending a contemplative note to the otherwise playful presence, and his compassionate face seems to bestow peace, blessings and inner serenity on those who sit before him.
