Buddha Statue - Antique Khmer Style Wood Standing Charity Buddha Statue - 66cm/26"
Measures (Height) 66cm/26"
An antique Khmer style teak wood Buddha from Cambodia.
The Buddha is is stood samabhanga on a simple pedestal.
The figure is remarkable for its realistic yet delicate delineation of the limbs and the robe which seems to cling to the body. The garment (sanghati) covers both shoulders.
The Buddha has both lowered hands in the varada mudra. This mudra offers charity, compassion and the granting of wishes. It signifies the five perfections: Generosity, Morality, Patience, Effort and Meditative Concentration, through the five extended fingers.
His face is handsome with a slight smile, downcast eyes and straight aquiline nose.
The carving is beautiful as you can see in the fine details of the face and hands. Each detail is rendered perfectly. The distinctive patina of the piece is also particularly delightful.
