Antique Phnom Da Style Stone Hari-Hara or Vishnu Head - Protector & Preserver - 39cm/16"
Measures - (Height) 39cm/16"
An antique Phnom Da–style stone head of Hari‑Hara / Vishnu, full of quiet power and sculptural refinement.
This finely carved head belongs to the Phnom Da tradition, where Vishnu appears as both world protector and preserver, the restorer of moral order and cosmic harmony. The proportions are beautifully judged: the broad forehead, gently arched brows and full lips create a sense of poised authority and inner stillness.
This perfect balance of volumes is the hallmark of a successful Vishnu sculpture.
The carving is crisp yet understated, with every feature rendered with assurance—the elegant almond‑shaped eyes, the subtle modelling around the nose and mouth, and the strong jawline that anchors the composition. The smooth stone surface carries a soft, even patina that enhances the purity of the form rather than distracting from it. The head is mounted (later) on a simple wooden base, allowing it to be appreciated from all sides and giving it a discreet, contemporary presence.
As Hari‑Hara or Vishnu, the deity embodies both preservation and integration of different aspects of the divine, making this piece especially resonant for those interested in the unity of forms within Hindu art.
Traditional in appearance yet strikingly modern in its minimalism, this head will bring serenity and timeless style to any home, office or sacred space, whether displayed on its own or as part of a wider collection of Khmer or Indian sculpture.
Provenance: Ex‑private London, UK collection.
