Antique Majaphait Style Bronze Javanese Rama - Avatar of Vishnu - 24cm/10"
Measures (Height) 24cm/1"
An antique Indonesian Rama in the 13th‑century Majapahit style, poised in a dynamic archer’s stance and alive with narrative detail.
Rama, the seventh avatar of Vishnu and prince‑king of Ayodhya, is shown here with bow and arrow fully drawn, signalling his readiness to destroy evil and protect dharma. His body twists in a graceful, dance‑like pose above a lotus‑flower base, the flowing scarves and lifted leg conveying movement and purpose. The richly bejewelled dhoti and sacred upavita (chest cord) are crisply rendered, framing a torso that combines strength with elegance.
The face has a serene, concentrated gaze, embodying Rama’s blend of courage and inner calm. Upon his head he wears a decorative Javanese‑style tiara set before the tall kirita‑makuta crown, a symbol of mastery over both positive and negative tendencies of the mind. A delicately indicated third eye or urna on the forehead, the aquiline nose and elongated earlobes with large earrings all add to the refined, royal character of the image. The figure’s proportions are beautifully balanced, giving the composition a sense of stability even in mid‑action.
The casting is superb, particularly evident in the taut line of the bow, the finely modelled hands and the intricate jewellery. A distinctive azurite and malachite‑toned patina softens the bronze and lends depth and character, suggesting long, respectful handling and age.
Traditional in iconography yet full of vitality, this Majapahit‑style Rama is an ideal piece to bring serenity, narrative richness and timeless style to your home, office or sacred space.

It is an amazing "museum quality" antique bronze!!! For a 19th century bronze antique, I believe the Newark, NJ Museum may express interest if I show them. However, they will never get it and I will have it in my collection for posterity. We will be doing much more business in the foreseeable future, count on it!!!

Thank you so very much! Well, I needed Buddha here -- and I certainly now have Buddha here in many ways and many forms -- with thanks to HDAsianArt. Each statue you've sent has worked out very well -- each in its own way -- each combined in settings with other art pieces -- each has blended well -- finishing off different areas of my home -- and all communicates well to tell a story of different aspects of my life. I intentionally chose your pieces -- to get away from the "norm" of beautiful gild Buddhas that everyone has -- your pieces are quite unique -- and a bit more "real" -- which serves my purpose well. So, thank you.
