    Measurements Height 31cm/12"

An antique Java Style seated bronze Parvati sculpture in the 13th century Majapahit style.

Parvati, the wife of Shiva, is seated on a double round lotus petal pedestal which is itself stood on a square decorated pedestal in the vajra position with her right leg is panhandle resting upon a lotus flower. The lotus flower represents purity, compassion and the giving of great joy to all.

As the wife of Shiva, Parvati is the voice of encouragement, reason, freedom, and strength, as well as of resistance, power, action and retributive justice.

She is dressed in simple robes, with a sash tied around her waist and wears a number of pieces of ornate jewellery, including crown and earrings.

Her hair is piled in a tripartite chignon decorated with a cockade. Parvati is discretely adorned with only a necklace, diamond shaped earrings, a Yajnopavita (Scared Brahmanical thread) and a single bangle on each wrist.

Parvati holds in her many hands she holds amongst other items a bell, chakra, fly whisk, trident, conch shell and Kalasha.

The Kalasha is considered a symbol of abundance and "source of life" in the Vedas. It is referred to as "overflowing full vase" in the Vedas. The Kalasha is believed to contain amrita, the elixir of life, and thus is viewed as a symbol of abundance, wisdom, and immortality.

She wears a richly bejewelled dhotis and upavitas. Her face has a serene downcast gaze. Parvati wears a decorative Javanese style tiara, on her head, in front of her Kirita-Makuta or tall conical crown. This symbolises her control over Positive and Negative attitudes.

She has an aquiline nose and elongated earlobes with large earrings.

A beaded aureole with flaming rim and parasol, with lotus bud finial, stands behind representing her divinity.

The sculpture has a wonderful brown malachite patina.
