Antique Khmer Style Preah-Ko Bronze Figure of Hindu God Shiva & Parvati - 29cm/12"
Measures - (Height) 29cm/12"
An antique Khmer style Shiva with Parvati, in the traditional pose. Shiva is regarded as limitless, transcendent, unchanging and formless. He is the patron god of yoga, meditation and art. Parvati is the wife of the Hindu god Shiva - the protector and regenerator of universe and all life. She is the goddess of fertility, love and devotion; as well as of divine strength and power.
The figure is in the Cambodian pre-Angkorian style of Preah-Ko. During this period the general silhouette became heavier. The faces become large and unexpressive. The moustache asserts itself and is completed with a beard. The tiara and the chignon headdress become general and announce Angkorian Art.
The statue has perfect balance and proportions which are the key to a fine Shiva sculpture. The casting is beautiful as you can see in the fine details of the fingers and toes. Each detail is rendered perfectly. The distinctive patina of the piece is also particularly delightful.
The sculpture provides the perfect traditional in appearance Shiva to bring serenity and timeless style to your home, office or sacred space.
