    Measures (Height) 35cm/14"

An Indonesian (Java) sculpture of Parvati in 13th century Majapahit style.

Parvati, the wife of Shiva, is stood on a round double lotus petal pedestal which is itself stood on a decorated pedestal. She is dressed in simple robes, with a sash tied around her waist and wears a number of pieces of ornate jewellery, including crown and earrings.

As the wife of Shiva, Parvati is the voice of encouragement, reason, freedom, and strength, as well as of resistance, power, action and retributive justice.

Parvati holds a number of items in her hands, including a fly whisk, trident, conch shell, bell and in her left hand the stem of a lotus flower, which can be seen by her leg and upon her left shoulder. This represents purity, compassion and the giving of great joy to all.

Her hair is piled in a tripartite chignon decorated with a cockade. Parvati is discretely adorned with only a necklace, diamond shaped earrings, a Yajnopavita (Scared Brahmanical thread) and a single bangle on each wrist.
