An antique Thai style Sukhothai style Buddha that depicts the Buddha in nirvana or enlightenment pose. The large ushnisha protuberance on top of his head symbolizes his high level of spiritual development.
This stunning Buddha has a gold gilt face, bronzed and malachite tones to his patina and flowing robes that extend in delicate curls at the extremities.
The Buddha has a peaceful countenance with downcast introspective eyes and a firm brow. His earlobes are stretched long from a youth spent as a prince wearing heavy gold earrings. The casting is beautiful as you can see in the fine details of the face and robes. Each detail is rendered perfectly. The distinctive patina of the piece is also particularly delightful.
The peaceful countenance of Lord Buddha exudes harmony. The Buddha is laying down on his side in calm repose. This pose captures him in his final moments before his death. The pose is also referred to as the sleeping Buddha and symbolises the Buddha's achievement of nirvana or enlightenment. The Buddha knew the exact moment of his death and at this time lay down to sleep and simply passed away peacefully with his enlightened soul eternally escaping the cycle of samasara.

Large and/or fragile pieces requiring palletising, specialist crating and/or extra packaging may take a little longer. Palletised shipments will be delivered curbside.
