Antique Burmese Style Standing Bronze Opium Weight Dragon Statue - 5.5cm/2" Tall
Measures - (Height) 5.5cm/2" Tall
An antique Burmese style bronze opium weight in the shape of a dragon on Chinthe statue.
The Chinthe is a leogryph (lion-like creature) that is often seen at the entrances of pagodas and temples in Myanmar (Burma). It is related to the Singha in Thailand and the Simha in Sri Lanka as well as to other similar lion statues in other parts of Asia.
The chinthe and the simha are featured prominently on the Burmese kyat and the Sri Lankan rupee banknotes respectively.
Weights like these have been used as units of measure across Burma for 100s of years. A lovely piece with excellent detail and patina.
The sculpture provides the perfect traditional in appearance Chinthe to bring serenity and timeless style to your home, office or sacred space.
This traditional in appearance piece is sure to add a unique touch to any room of your home or workplace.
