Rare 19th Century Antique Bronze Khmer Meditation Buddha Stupa - 14cm/6" Tall
Measures - (Height) 14cm/6"
Ca. 19th century antique bronze Meditation Buddha adorned stupa. This Buddhist commemorative monument would been used to house a relic associated with the Buddha or other saintly person. The hemispherical form of the stupa was derived from pre-Buddhist burial mounds in India.
The sculpture supports a solid dome (the anda, egg or garbha). The Stupa is richly decorated with four seated Meditation Buddha sculptures. This hand gesture promotes the energy of meditation, deep contemplation and unity with higher energy.
Encircling the Stupa are 12 Naga serpents providing protection to the contents.
The Stupa is formed from two seperate, interlocking parts.
