In Burma, a pair of lion statues called 'Chinthe' guard the stupas, pagodas, and buddhist temples throughout the country. They also appear on the countries currency and are a key symbol of the entire country. According to legend the 'Chinthe' is the best guard for any religious building.

Carved from Teak, gilded and encrusted with semi-precious stones this magnificant pair of 19th century Chinthe reflect the artisanal screens of the Burmese people. Unfortunately, the front foot on one of the pair is damaged. This is reflected in the price.

Material: Wood Dimensions (HxWxD): 30cm x 12cm x 21cm
